The Idido Cooperative was established in the late 1970s, and joined the Yirgacheffe Farmers cooperative in 2002. Idido is also the name of the village where the cooperative’s centralised washing station is located, and from there the cooperative works with growers in eight surrounding kabeles (villages). The Idido is sourced from family-owned farms organized around the Idido coffee mill located in the Gedeo Zone of Ethiopia. The Gedeo region is named after the Gedeo people who are indigenous to this area. This Ethiopian Heirloom varietal is grown at an elevation of 2050-2200 MASL.The Idido mill is located in a beautiful valley in the town of Idido near the town of Yirgacheffe. Small coffee farmers deliver ripe cherries to the Idido mill where the cherries are sorted. The cherries are placed on raised drying beds in thin layers for 4 - 6 weeks. During this period, the cherries are turned every couple of hours to stop mold or over-fermentation. Then the beans are transported to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to be milled and bagged prior to export.
